Giraffe using 'clean monoprinting method'
At the moment the thing which I am enjoying the most is monoprinting. This is a way of printmaking where you get one print from one drawing. The 'clean monoprinting' method I use in school and the method I use for first time printers is using oil pastels on the back of a drawing or even better using a sheet of photocopy paper covered in a thick layer of oil pastel, which you sandwich in between your drawing you are going to go over with a biro or pencil and your cartridge or art paper underneath. That is how this giraffe was done.
Otter monoprint using waterbased printing ink
The easiest, cheapest and cleanest way to start monoprinting is to buy a tube of water based printing ink and a roller and a really cheap glass counter top protector from a pound store. You roll out a really thin layer of black ink onto the glass, lay a thin photocopy of the picture you want to print face up ontop of the ink and draw over the lines you think are important. You only masking tape it down at the top so every now and then you can lift it up and take a peek and make sure you got all the lines. I use a red biro so I can see where I have gone.
