It's all about pets!

I have progressed onto doing portraits of pets in the last few months after doing a portrait of our beloved Bruce and being asked why I did not do more pet portraits and I just did not have a good reason why not!

I start the process with a monoprint. It seems to be a way of working which I find makes me more sketchy and free than if I work in just pencil on paper. I cannot explain what it is about the line but somehow it gives me the base I want and then I add the watercolor in two stages.

I work wet in wet first which is where I saturate the areas where I want colours to blend into each other and then once that is dry I go in for wet on dry where I used much finer brushes and add the finer detail.
